"Light as a feather, protects from the weather! That’s the U.L. Stretch Wind Parka from our friends at Montbell. We are absolutely crazy about this ultra lightweight shell that is loaded with noteworthy features. Let’s start off with the fabric: a 12-denier Ballistic Airlight rip-stop nylon shell fabric that is treated with Montbell’s PolkaTek DWR. This gives you an extremely durable jacket that won’t tear as you blaze your way through the brush, and it retains its water repellent properties even after multiple washings (a big bonus here in the Pacific Northwest!). On top of that, it’s breathable and has a bit of give to it so your movement is not restricted. Elastic around the cuffs will keep the wind out, and there are draw cord adjustment at the hem and hood. The longer length is excellent on the trails for added coverage and especially welcome when on a bike. Two zippered hand pockets are large and appropriately placed. There’s a inner pocket as well (how great is that!), and it allows you to pack the jacket inside it for a compact, little pouch to pop in your backpack or attach to the outside of your pack with the handy carrying loop for those days when it starts out cool then warms up. The Montbell U.L Stretch Wind Parka is an outstanding shell for all your TrailblazerGirl adventures."

Montbell Athlete Heather "Anish" Anderson Review and Recommendations

A reliable windshirt is an essential piece of gear for me. Running and hiking in the mountains, especially in the summer, can mean a reduction in gear carried. However, the weather still can turn on you and carrying the UL Stretch Wind Parka is a great solution. At only 3.6 oz this piece doesn’t weigh much or take up too much space, even in a day or running pack. It’s durable enough to last, comfortable, warm and water repellent. The zippered pockets are perfect for keeping gloves and/or maps handy.

I appreciate the bias cut which allows the fabric to stretch increasing comfort. I was even able to use this feature to create a makeshift life vest by putting my sleeping pad under the jacket and zipping it shut when I had to swim a difficult river crossing on the Oregon Desert Trail. The UL Stretch Wind Parka is also more breathable than other wind shells I’ve owned. The hood is roomy enough to fit over a hat when the temperature drops. It will be in my kit for upcoming thru hike of the Continental Divide Trail.
