LAYERING: THE KEY TO AN ENJOYABLE TOUR

Weather in the mountains can fluctuate wildly. In order to deal with this environmental variation and remain comfortable, it is essential to choose appropriate clothing. The tried-and-true approach in the backcountry world is to wear multiple layers, starting from the outside in. The outer layer should be durable and weather proof, the middle layer should retain heat, and the base layer should be next to skin to maintain body temperature and manage moisture. Depending on conditions and the intensity of movement, layers can be mixed and matched to provide the right level of comfort and protection from the elements.
