Montbell Portland Store

About the Store

This retail store is located in the downtown area, just one block away from Portland's historic Pioneer Square. Recognized as "the place" for shopping, this busy area is also well known for excellent food and a fun atmosphere. Situated on the local train line and in front of a MAX station, access is simple and convenient at any time of day.
One of the reasons we chose this area is the vibrant community full of friendly active people. However, there are many things that drew us here: The greater Portland area enjoys mild, but challenging weather. Rich, green landscapes with beautiful natural areas packed with rivers, mountains, and coastline excellent for recreation. We are very excited by the opportunity to open a flagship location here in this special city.
This store boasts an extensive selection of alpine climbing, backpacking, and camping gear, as well as activity specific outdoor inspired apparel. Like all MontBell locations, the store features our award winning Light & Fast product designs and knowledgeable sales associates; making this the perfect place visit before heading into the backcountry for your next wilderness adventure.

After torture-testing my Torrent Flier for 3,000 miles on the Continental Divide Trail, I recommend it as the perfect hardshell for backpackers. It’s the lightest Gore-Tex Paclite shell around, at 8.6 ounces, yet it’s durable enough to survive the truly rugged conditions of the CDT. No pockets means no hip-belt chafe and pitzips allow for dialed comfort on the steepest climbs.
For next level storm protection needed in places like the Cascades or Rockies, consider upgrading to Gore-tex. For only ounces more, it’s twice as waterproof and twice as breathable as the Versalite, our lightest polyurethane rain jacket.

The Dynamo wind pants have become one of my favorite pieces of gear. Originally purchased part way through a several month trek on the Appalachian Trail, I quickly realized that my conventional hiking pants were no longer necessary. I often layer this piece over trail shorts or tights, providing me several layering options while on the trail. The Dynamos hold up well to light rain and even feel fine next to skin, though I prefer at least shorts underneath. At 2.5oz a pair they are a prime example of an ultra-light, Montbell piece that goes unmatched on the market (at least as far as my research shows).
