Cam "Swami" Honan shares his 7 years of experience with the Tachyon Anorak

Review published April 12, 2017

Montbell athlete Cam "Swami" Honan has been using the Tachyon Anorak while hiking 20,000 plus miles over the past seven years. It might be fair to say he has some important insights on the Tachyon! Read the full review over at his site, The Hiking Life.

"Over the past seven years, the Montbell Tachyon Anorak wind shirt has been a mainstay of my backpacking kit. Indeed, rarely does a day in the backcountry go by when I don’t wear it at some time or another. Considering that it weighs about the same as a Snickers bar and packs down smaller than a tennis ball, I find it hard to justify not bringing along this versatile item on most backpacking trips."

Out There Monthly

Reviewed on May 20, 2016

Out There Monthly featured the Tachyon Anorak in a review on their website. Here's what they had to say.

"While it’s definitely not a replacement for your heavier waterproof breathable jacket when rain is in the forecast, the Tachyon Anorak is an indispensable windbreaker that, when pulled over a fleece or base layer, is an incredible heat trapper that lives in my bike pack when it’s not in my running pack or my multi-day backpack or fleece pocket on a stroll down by the river. The stripped-down, functional design left room for a 10 inch zipper that helps with venting and makes entries and exits go more smoothly. It fits tight to keep annoying wind flapping to a minimum, so keep that in mind when choosing a size."

Appalachian Trials selects the Tachyon Anorak for their 2015 Holiday Gear Guide

Review Date: Dec 15, 2015

AT Thru Hiker Caet Cash has this to say about the Tachyon Anorak: "What if I told you there was a way to turn your mid weight breathable fleece layer into a bombproof wind cutting, heat trapping, mega insulating layer? What if I told you it could be done for a mere 1.6 ounces (for a men’s medium)? Yep, it’s all true. The Montbell Tachyon Anorak does it all."

Montbell Athlete Whitney "Allgood" LaRuffa's Review and Recommendations

Review Date: August 2015

The MVP of my clothing kit on the SHR. The Tachyon Anorak is the perfect layer to wear on a chilly morning or windy afternoon as you hike. I keep this item on the outside of my pack for easy access as I wear it at break time to conserve my energy by warding off a chill. The DWR finish is by far one of the best on the market and I often wore this piece during light rain events. I also use this jacket at night as my sleeping shirt as it increases my warmth and also helps to keep my sleeping bag cleaner inside.

Over all I cannot recommend this piece enough to anyone looking for a wind shirt. At 2.6oz is by and far one of the best items of warmth and comfort per oz. The biggest seller for me with this jacket is the hood, I often wear it over my fleece hat at night to prevent condensation form getting me wet when my head touches the inside of my tarp.
