The fabric this cap is made with has a metallic coating that is achieved through a process called "sputtering treatment." Due to the nature of the mesh, it is NOT an effective means of reducing exposure to UV radiation (UV rays will pass through the holes in the mesh). What it is effective at doing is minimizing the effects of summer heat by allowing cool air to pass through and release built up heat.
