Artist Information / Hiroshi Yoshida

Yoshida (1876-1950) was born in Fukuoka prefecture. Yoshida showed early interest in art and was trained in the style of Western oil painting.
Becoming famous as an oil painter, Yoshida would travel the world show casing his art and developed connections with artists in America that would influence his art. It wasn't until much later that Yoshida started working with woodblock prints and became well known for his depiction of non-Japanese scenes in traditional Japanese woodblocks. Yoshida had several visits to America and even toured many national parks. Some prints from his prolific career showcase some of the sights he saw on those trips.
