The Peak Dry Shell is Montbell's rainproof jacket made with GORE-TEX Shake Dry technology. Shake Dry is GORE-TEX's concept of taking the waterproof/breathable membrane and putting it on the outer layer of the jacket's fabric. The benefit of this construction creates a surface fabric that permanently beads water, eliminating the need for durable water repellant treatments. It also boasts excellent breathability, keeping you dry and comfortable even when you’re active. This construction does have its limitations. Since the membrane is on the outside of the jacket, care needs to be taken avoid situations where the jacket is subjected to abrasion. We see this jacket demonstrating its true value on missions that are short and don't require heavy packs; like light mountain climbing and speed hikes. Backpackers with heavier loads or thru-hikers that have light packs but intended to use it every day for 6 months would be better off going with a different option. Due to fabric sourcing limitations, we are only doing a limited run of US mediums and larges.

K-Mono Cut

ecinfo_001_00164.jpg

Cut from a single piece of fabric, K-MONO CUT drastically reduces the amount of seam lines eliminating areas where water can penetrate, promoting the jacket to be waterproof and lightweight. This innovative pattern is based on Montbell's philosophy of "Ki-no-bi" which is a Japanese term for "Function is Beauty".

< WATERPROOF > Reducing the amount of seam lines eliminates areas where water can penetrate the jacket.
< LIGHTWEIGHT > Minimizing the amount of seam lines and tapes reduce the jacket's final weight.
