The fabric this screen is made with has a metallic coating that is achieved through a process called "sputtering treatment." Due to the nature of the mesh, it is NOT an effective means of reducing exposure to UV radiation (UV rays will pass through the holes in the mesh). What the mesh is effective at doing is minimizing the effects of summer heat by allowing cool air to pass through and releasing built up heat. Additionally, this technology reflects visible light to keep your head cooler. Put on over your favorite cap and use the draw cord to lock it in place.
